e-Passport

E-passport

Please read carefully all the instructions in this page before going to fill-in and submit the online application form. The link of the E-passport Online Registration Portal is https://www.epassport.gov.bd/onboarding

.

To apply for e-passport, you must have either a Bangladeshi NID card or a Birth Registration Certificate (BRC) having a 17 digit number which is verifiable at everify.bdris.gov.bd. In case of BRC, please make sure that the webpage having your verified BRC contains the necessary data, e.g. names of the applicant and the parents in English and they match with the corresponding data in your application. If they do not match, please contact the office from which the BRC was issued to do the necessary correction. Additionally, if you have become a US citizen, you need to show the Dual Nationality Certificate issued by the Government of Bangladesh. Otherwise, you are required to have a proof of your legal status in the US, e.g. valid visa or permanent resident card, etc.

The applicants with Bangladeshi passport having more than one year validity can't apply unless proved by a supporting document justifying the legitimate necessity.

Submission of Application and Enrolment

While filling-in the online application, you need to choose Los Angeles mission as your passport office and your present address must be an address in the USA.

It is mandatory to seek appointment and appear in-person for biometric enrolment after online submission of the application. Online appointment system at epassport.gov.bd resumed on 20 April 2022; hence we are no longer scheduling appointment by email. You can now schedule appointment during the process of applying online. If you have submitted the application earlier, please log into your account at epassport.gov.bd and schedule the appointment.

Please choose any available timeslot (either of regular or express delivery) to schedule your appointment. The appointment system is automatically operated within e-passport portal (epassport.gov.bd) which is maintained by the Department of Immigration and Passports in Dhaka.

Due to technical glitches of the appointment system, if you get an appointment on Saturday or Sunday or any other holiday, or if you miss the appointment date due to unavoidable circumstances, please come to the Consulate for enrolment any office day between 10 am to 1 pm after the scheduled date of appointment but before the date of registration expiration mentioned in the Application Summary. No rescheduling is required in these cases.

After scheduling appointment, please carefully go through this entire webpage to make sure you are fully prepared for the biometric enrolment.

After submission of your online application, if you find that certain data need to be corrected, please do not worry. Please correct the printout with pen. The official of the Consulate will make necessary changes to your application during biometric enrolment at the Consulate. Before completing your enrolment, you will be shown the draft delivery slip. You can sign the delivery slip after checking all your information.

Please do not send your application package or any document related to e-passport application by mail as you are required to come in-person by scheduling appointment. After biometric enrolment, your existing original passport will be immediately given back to you.

Once you arrive at the Consulate on the day of your scheduled appointment and submit your application to the counter of Passport & Visa Wing, it may take up to 3 to 4 hours before getting your turn to do the biometrics as there are six steps in the process of enrolment prior to capturing biometrics and most of the applicants come without the required documents; hence the concerned officials need to spend a lot of time helping those applicants prepare their application package.

Payment of Fees

Please make a money order or cashier check or official check (not older than 30 days) payable to the 'Consulate General of Bangladesh, Los Angeles'. Cash or personal check or online payment is not accepted. While filling-in online application, please select 'Offline Payment'. Every application must be submitted with a separate money order or cashier's check or official check even if the applications belong to one family or group. You are required to submit the money order or cashier check or official check in-person during biometric enrolment at the Consulate. If you want to upgrade delivery type from 'regular' to 'express', please bring the required amount for the 'express' delivery. On the contrary, those who have submitted online application for 'express' delivery are not allowed to change it to 'regular' option.

The students must bring a copy of Student ID Card to submit during biometric enrolment. Only the full-time, active students are eligible to receive student discount. Those studying above Grade-12 must also show I-20 or other official document that proves the full-time, active studentship status of the applicant.

Please note that as per Section 14(e) of Wage Earners' Welfare Board Act, 2018, all consular fees of Bangladesh missions abroad must include 10% surcharge to contribute to the Wage Earners' Welfare Fund.

Please be informed that if the money order/cashier's check/official check submitted by the applicant is returned by the bank as unpaid due to insufficient balance, the passport of the concerned applicants will be cancelled; and it will be published on the website and Facebook page of the Consulate. The matter will also be reported to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Department of Immigration & Passports in Dhaka so that the concerned applicants can no longer receive any service from the Government of Bangladesh.

NO REFUNDS: Fees, once received by the Consulate, cannot be refunded, even if the application is withdrawn or service cannot be rendered.

Processing time for issuance of e-passport:

Express delivery: 30 working days; Regular delivery: 45 working days

(NB: Processing time may vary depending on the merit of individual cases. The applications having data mismatch among their different documents often take longer than the stipulated time)

  10. any other documents that might be applicable to you as per the following link: https://www.epassport.gov.bd/instructions/instructions

Delivery

By Mail: The applicants are requested to provide at the time of enrolment a prepaid, self-addressed return envelope (USPS only) with tracking number and a copy of Bangladeshi NID card of himself/herself or that of the authorized representative so that when the new passport is ready for issuance, it can be delivered by mail. Separate return envelope for each applicant is to be provided because the processing time varies on the basis of the merit of each application. When the new passport comes from Dhaka and is officially received through the e-passport software at the Consulate, a system generated email with common template goes to the applicant from the Department of Immigration & Passports in Dhaka requesting the applicant to pick-up the passport from the local passport office, i.e. the Consulate in this case. Please do not get confused by this 'pick-up' message because if you have already provided the return envelope and copy of NID, your new passport will be mailed to you.

Click Here for Service Hours of Walk-in: The applicants who neither have NID of their own nor of anyone who agrees to send his/her NID to be used for issuance on their behalf may walk-in to the Consulate after getting the update from epassport.gov.bd that the passport is ready for issuance at the local passport office.
